Importance of electronic waste management

What is E-waste?

E-waste management is the process of collecting e-waste, recovering and recycling material using safe ways, and disposing of e-waste using appropriate approaches to minimize its negative environmental affects.Plastics, metals, cathode ray tubes (CRTs), printed wires, circuit boards, and other materials are commonly found in e-waste. Once properly treated, precious metals such as copper, silver, gold, and platinum may be recovered from e-waste. The presence of toxic substances such as liquid crystal, lithium, mercury, nickel, selenium, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), arsenic, barium, brominated flame retardants, cadmium, chrome, cobalt, copper, and lead makes it extremely dangerous if e-waste is dismantled and processed crudely using rudimentary techniques.

E-waste is extremely hazardous to humans, animals, and the environment.

When computers, mainframes, servers, monitors, printers, scanners, compact discs (CDs), copiers, calculators, battery cells, cellular phones, fax machines, transceivers, TVs, medical apparatus, iPods, refrigerators, washing machines, and air conditioners become unfit for use, they are examples of e-waste. Even in trace amounts, extremely poisonous chemicals including heavy metals such as mercury, lead, beryllium, and cadmium represent a serious hazard to the environment

What is E-Waste management?

"E-waste management is the process of collecting e-waste, recovering and recycling material using safe ways, and disposing of e-waste using appropriate approaches to minimize its negative environmental affects."

Activities involving the correct disposal of electronic waste items, such as re-use, as well as public education on e-Waste dangers and effective disposal techniques.

E-waste management programs-

As it is discussed above in the introduction that E-waste is extremely hazardous to humans, animals, and the environment, so to prevent E-waste to increase and to manage that our government and many companies run some programs to manage Electronic waste

E-Waste Disposal scheme implemented by Government

The Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoFE) is conducting a Scheme to give financial help for the establishment of hazardous waste treatment, disposal, and storage facilities, as well as integrated recycling facilities for e-waste, through a public-private partnership.

According to Jayanthi Natarajan, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Environment and Forests' written note in parliament, the ministry has announced the e-Wastes (Management and Treatment) Rules, 2011, for the management and handling of e-waste, which went into effect on May 1, 2012.

According to these Rules, 'e-waste' refers to trash electrical and electronic equipment, in whole or in part, or rejects from their manufacture and maintenance processes that are destined for disposal.

#GreenerTomorrow program run by Samsung Electronics

At Samsung Electronics, they strive to create a greener environment via eco-friendly products, solutions, and technologies that benefit consumers, respect the planet, and provide a brighter future for future generations.

In continuing of their efforts to create a clean and green tomorrow, they have launched the Samsung Care for Clean India campaign to raise awareness about responsible e-waste and plastic trash disposal.
